The Countdown is running – submission phase ends 15 November.
The Innovation World Cup Series has an impressive track record in introducing new and breakthrough technologies to the market. Who were the game-changers of the last Innovation World Cups and what are they doing now? In the following we will present you three former finalists and winners and their success stories that have started with the Innovation World Cup:
Recon Instruments started in 2008 developing a heads-up display for athletes. This was a game-changing idea at the smart eyewear market. With the HUD´s technology athletes were able to read SMS, view caller ID and select music from their iPhones or Android phones instantly via the HUD screen. After winning the WT | Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup 2011/12, Recon Instruments skyrocketed! They received significant investments from Intel Capital and Motorola Solutions. And guess what… in 2015 they even became an Intel company and are now on the track to enter new markets and to work even more intense on their technologies.
For sure everyone working on the Internet of Things knows Sigfox – the cellular connectivity solution for the Internet of Things. When they participated in the IOT / M2M Innovation World Cup (former M2M Challenge) in 2012 they were a team of three at that time. Due to the competition they have started a collaboration with IOT / M2M Innovation World Cup partner Telit to cooperate on their patented Ultra Narrow Band technology. In 2015 the French company raised $ 115 million from several investors. They have now already millions of objects connected and the funding will help them to succeed their aim providing their network in 60 countries in the upcoming few years.
But there is no need looking so far back in time ! COBI was winning the Innovation World Cup in the category « mobility » in the 2014/15 competition. The device which connects your bike to your smartphone was also a completely new product on the market. This year COBI has received a 4 million investment and finished their kickstarter campaign successfully. With the world´s first control center for bikes they are now going international. In October 2015 they have announced to enter the US market with a headquarter in San Francisco and two US bike manufacturers as partners! The shipment of the first COBI bike systems will start in early 2016.
