Innovosens – an innovative startup from Sweden – brought to the 12th Healthcare Innovation World Cup® 2020, their unique solution. Innovosens develops microfluidics system which enables the process of sweat collection, measurement of multiple parameters, and replenishment with fresh sweat once the measurements are taken. Their technology offers unique way of sampling process and the microchannel layout for achieving attractive fluid dynamics and rapid re-filling of the detection reservoir.
Let’s have a throwback chat with the Innovosens team and find out their recipe for sweat metabolite analysis for sports and healthcare industries.
1. INTRODUCE YOURSELF! – HOW DID IT ALL START?
It all started with the passion to create value-based products into health care and society, also having lost my father and having personally affected with diabetes the decision was to create a disruptive solution within the space of diabetes management.
2. WHAT ARE THE KEY MILESTONES YOU HAVE REACHED SO FAR?
So far, we have secured funding quite some awards and grants from the Swedish start up ecosystem and EU commission, Seal of Excellence Award, which is a quality stamp, we are also the winners of EIT health catapult winners for Scandinavia and Venture cup southern Sweden. We progressed quite far in terms of product and are now close to the pilots with Mayo clinic, USA and a research lab in the USA.
We have also launched a new product line in India and receiving good amount of traction for the product. We have now completed Sony Acceleration program and got funded by them.
3. WHAT WERE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU HAVE FACED?
There are many learnings like any other start up journey, the biggest learning is with regards to technical development, time lines and product launch, if we are given an opportunity we would choose a product which has less engineering, quick to market, so we don’t have to rely on fundraising but we will have our own revenues, instead of relying on fundraising so could avoid delays in product launch and development.
4. WHAT IS COMING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Future looks very bright for us, we anticipate beginning our pilots and launch the core product into health and wellness and we received substantial traction and will also fund raise.
5. DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE 12th HEALTHCARE INNOVATION WORLD CUP®?
It was an exciting experience being one among the 12 innovative companies, it gave us quite good PR, connections and partnership options and networks needed for wearable devices company.
6. CAN YOU SHARE WITH US YOUR THREE TIPS FOR UP-COMING START-UPS?
One thing we have learnt is to be sell the 1st bunch of products, get the pulse of customers convince them and make the sale happen before anything else, then the world is theirs. The events and Innovation World Cup® definitely adds value as it’s a great platform to be exposed and featured as a start-up.
