Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things were the hot topics of the StartSmart Conference Poland held on Monday 5th June in Warsaw. Together with the Innovation World Cup Series, MIT Enterprise Forum Poland hosted a wide variety of international speakers, experts, and startups to offer a full day of knowledge sharing.
Highlights of the day included an introduction to MIT Technology Review’s 10 Breakthrough Technologies 2017, a keynote by author of “Thinking Machines” Luke Dormehl, and the Innovation World Cup session on the Future of IoT. A further highlight was the fantastic location of the conference at Poland’s largest science centre situated on the Vistula River in Warsaw, the Copernicus Science Centre.
Speakers of the Innovation World Cup session included representatives of Wearable Technologies, STMicroelectronics, EBV Elektronik, Geeny.io, Gemalto, Varta, Metropolis, StethoMe and Mimesis Technology. Split into two parts, the first half saw the tech giants share their perspectives on connected devices, the IoT ecosystems and the platforms and technologies employed across the IoT. Backing up the tech giants were a selection of IoT startups who pitched their innovative products live to the audience.
Also of interest was the Smart City Panel moderated by the Innovation World Cup founder and CEO of Wearable Technologies, Christian Stammel. Panelists had diverse backgrounds from UAV and autonomous vehicle experts to process optimization and strategic transformation specialists. A lively discussion followed about the future of AI and IOT in Smart Cities, how to prepare for it and the effect it will have on society.
We asked one our our speakers, Andreas Vogler of Metropolis, for his thoughts on the conference:
“As a start-up entrepreneur it is important to identify opportunities that add value to your business and the StartSmart Poland conference on 5th June in Warsaw paid off splendidly and was well worth the effort. I left the conference with the feeling that I had made some significant progress. The smart city panel, on which I was a panelist, provided lively debate and generated a number of inspiring, business-critical questions for me. One such question is around how we make the smart city accessible for its citizens and how to manage the significant change that would be required for that. Another benefit for me was to pitch my start-up during the conference and experience the pitches of others – contributing to the continuous optimization of my own pitch skills. Also the ongoing conversations with other experts and entrepreneurs during the conference turned out to be fruitful exchanges of experiences and – the best part – they generated a number of new ideas and opportunities. The thoughtful selection of topics, together with the expertise and diverse perspectives of the invited presenters and panelists, made this conference an excellent learning and development opportunity for everybody who attended.”
